Types of Bound Books

Perfect Bindng

Perfect Binding is a process that professionally binds books and magazines with a squared spine. The pages are adhered together to create a sturdy and long-lasting bond. The term “Perfect” is used because the finished product is trimmed to have an even edge, giving the finished product a professional and polished look. Perfect binding can be an ideal choice for any project with a larger (40+) page count. For example, catalogs that are perfect bound have a more magazine-like quality and are more likely to be saved and re-read by the recipient.

Case Binding

You may know case-bound books as hardcover books. In a case-bound book, a hard durable cover (usually made from stiff cardboard) wraps the book, protecting the pages and the spine. This cover is usually wrapped in a special type of book cloth, for a classy (and classic) look. Case binding is an excellent choice for fiction as well as non-fiction books, as it is an exceptionally protective binding style suitable for long shelf life.

Spiral Binding

Unlike Wire-O binding, spiral or coil bound feature a single continuous plastic loop threaded through the holes punched in the spine of the booklet. Spiral binding is a popular option for notebooks, workbooks and manuals. This binding option can add a professional look to your reports, manuals and company documents for a relatively low cost.

Saddle Stitch

Saddle-stitching is the ideal solution for smaller sized run and jobs that require a quick turnaround. It is also a very cost-effective binding technique. Since no curing time is needed, saddle-stitch binding offers turnaround time of just a few hours, beating perfect binding turnaround times by a large margin. Saddle-stitched binding is the simplest and most basic method for booklet binding. In the saddle-stitching process, sheets are cut, folded, and collated, then stapled twice along the spine. Since it lays fairly flat, crossovers are easier to lay out.

Book Printing Process

Step 1

When you’re ready to print a book, start your order. You’ll choose your custom printing options, including cover style and binding selection. Add on some jazzy upgrades to help your book stand out in a crowd.

Step 2

We’ll prepare your document file for the pre-press process, and if you like, send you a printed proof.

Step 3

When everything looks good, your book heads to the press! We use a digital printing press for high-quality images and crisp text, so your book looks sharp and professional.

Step 4

Hot off the presses, we give your book a final once-over. Then we ship it to you from one of our centrally located facilities, so you receive your books fast! You can even upgrade to Rush or Super Rush production or choose expedited shipping if you need it even faster.
